Dr. Diouf Bids Farewell to the Schomburg Center

After sixteen years at the Schomburg Center and three years as inaugural director of the Lapidus Center, I am retiring.

I am proud of the work accomplished so far: a fantastic three-day conference with cutting-edge presentations viewed online and onsite by over 15,000 people and public programs that attracted more than 40,000 viewers.

Our website, podcasts, e-newsletter and social media platforms reached hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world as we explored the African Diaspora in all its extraordinary diversity.

The Harriet Tubman Book Prize, a year-long process, is now in its third year. Fellowships have been offered to thirteen scholars; and partnerships with prestigious institutions have exposed the Lapidus Center to new audiences.

As I leave the Center I look forward to returning to my scholarship and traveling.

Thank you for your support.  I wish all of you and the Lapidus Center a wonderful 2018 and beyond!

Sylviane A. Diouf
